Work process

These photos show our group infiltrating Design Dimensions program at the Wolfsonian Museum-FIU, another great free program for teens. For more information about Design Dimensions, call Mark at 305-535-2625.

Thomas Draschan

Thomas Draschan is a filmmaker/video artist we admire. Check out the link to his website. A teeny clip collaging 16mm film together is shown.

visiting artists

We invite artists who have expertise in different areas to visit and teach our group. One of our all time favorites is Dimitry Chamy, awesome genius web and graphic designer. He showed us how to do some basic things using Flash, and also to create our own type fonts.

This is our conference room/lab at the Bass Museum.

This is how it's done

camera-less photography

One of the things we have done in Art to Work workshops is create portrait imagery without using a camera. Instead, we place faces, hands, feet and our favorite props directly on the surface of a scanner. Once we scan the image into the computer, we can manipulate it with all kinds of effects. These are some of the examples made by kids we visited.

The Chronicles of Deming, Lily, and Miriam

We randomly filmed this while we out at the Botanical Gardens. It makes no sense, but it's very funny. Just watch the whole thing, it gets better at the end. If you can't watch it frm this, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoWNU3AqXrM. Yay! -Miriam

Who are we?

Phanta Ex Speaks on behalf of students who work with Bass Museum artists-in-residence Michelle Weinberg and Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez doing video and web-based multimedia projects. Please check in every so often to see what the group is up to.

Here we are visiting the e-flux video rental store at The Moore Space in the Design District last year.

Here's some more images. -Miriam

Here is a picture of our group working on our first project. We went t the Botanical Gardens to shoot a small film. Well, actually, we didn't g t the gardens at first because it is closed on Mondays. So in the beginning we were working on the side of a dirty canal. Luckily my mm (being a former president f the Garden Club) got us into the park t work. It was a long, hot day, but we still got a lot done. I'm excited to start working and editing n the project, and I really hope that it turned out well. As a special treat we got my sister, Lily, to be part of the filming process. However, she refuses to participate in any other part of the movie. Art, as she puts it, isn't her 'thing'. But it’s all right; I'm even surprised she came at all. Anyways, we’ll be posting much of our art and photos, so be on the lookout for Phanta eX!
